One month in

I'm half way through my internship at the Star-Ledger and it's been a lot of fun. I've had the chance to cover everything from court hearings to baseball to protests. And it's not just what I'm covering, but the lifestyle of a photojournalist is something to experience. It's a lot of time on the road, trying to constantly be creative and working random hours.

Here are some photos that I like from the past month.

Shooting in the snow

I woke up today to giant snowflakes floating outside of my window. Ever since I've moved to New York I've been wanting to get out and shoot when it is snowing. Today I got my wish. Fortunately it wasn't that cold outside and the hardest part was trying to keep the snow out of my face while looking for pictures.

2010 New York City Marathon Photos

Got up a little early on a Sunday morning to shoot the NYC Marathon in Brooklyn today. I wandered between miles 3 and 5 just trying to create some interesting images that weren't your typical runner pictures. This is the part of the course that goes through Bay Ridge and Sunset Park.

Updated Portfolio

I recently uploaded my updated portfolio, which you can see here.

Like always, it was tough picking images for my port and cutting it down. I parted with some pics I loved and others that I don't even know how they ended up in previous works. It's also hard when you've seen the same picture over and over again throughout the years, you get kind of used to it. For me I tried my hardest to keep a variety and set a number of images that I would have. This helped me to drop those I was on the fence about.

Another benefit was that I also know where I need improvement. It's a good exercise to go through a few times a year to really just evaluate where you are and which way you want to go. Be sure to take a look at my portfolio and let me know what you think, and also if you know of any gigs here in NYC.

Sixth Annual New York Hustle Congress

I spent a good chunk of the weekend shooting the Sixth Annual New York Hustle Congress. I have to say that it was a tremendous amount of fun. I really enjoyed snapping pictures of people who were having the times of their lives. A lot of people had just expressions of pure fun on their faces and it was a pleasure to document.

If you are looking to purchase photos from the event, go to www.joeproudman.com/nyhustle and follow the directions from there. If you have any questions just shoot me an email I'll get right back to you.

This is what the galleries will look like when you start searching for photos.

I've realized that it might not be a bad idea to learn a dance or two. It's rather impressive what some people were doing on the floor with just a few well placed and timed steps.

On cue with the post below I took pictures of my bbq last night. Taking pictures of everything.
