Haha

A little mid-week chuckle to get you through the west of the week.

South Bay Strobist Meet-up

Ok, as stated earlier there is a South Bay Strobist meet up in San Jose on February 9.

This a cool development on so many levels, but one of the coolest things is that it is being held in a church. There are 12 people already confirmed to attend and maybe a few more interested.

Check out the discussion here for more info.

I am still alive

I know it has been a while since I have posted, and I know that one of my resolutions was to post a lot more frequently, but school has started once again and my life on and off of the internet is in hibernation.

I did get away to a rainy San Luis Obispo this weekend, and made a Strobist minded purchase. I got an umbrella and to go along with it I order a set of Cactus V2 radio slaves from Midwest Photo Exchange.

You can expect a full report on those and info on a South bay Strobist meet-up in the near future.

The other side of the tracks

So this weekend was the Mavericks Surf Contest right near Half Moon Bay.

So I was on my way down Highway 1 from Santa Cruz. But of course I missed the contest. I missed the 20 foot waves and all the hoopla of one of the gnarliest surf contest in the world. I missed the bands and the party. But hey, there's is always next year, hopefully.

My cousin came up from the valley and really wanted to check Half Moon Bay out. Both he and I got into surfing years back. In fact I remember the first time we rented those massive blue softops from the Unknown Surf Shop. Neither of us stood up that day, but there was a lot of falling and a lot of fun.

Since then we have caught the waves at our usual spot, but I tell you it has been a while since I got into the water. Anyways, I took this picture going up the one from Santa Cruz. It was a gorgeous day and even though I missed the contest, and the first quarter of the Patriots game, it was well worth it.

I call it, "The other side of the tracks"

First serious shot of the year

One thing I have come to realize is that I want to shoot more. All great photographers just shot and shot some more. I am stuck in an office all day, and getting out to snap some pictures is a good cure for office depression.

Living in San Jose, and coming back into town has given me a new appreciation for pictures around town that I would have never seen before. I have always wanted to shot this old bait shop that I remember making a stop at before heading to the old fishing hole when I was younger.

Since then it probably has been condemned and reminds me that I am getting older everyday.

This was shot with a Nikon D200, but I also shot a half a roll of film on it. I love how I can stand in the middle of the road without worrying about getting ran over.

The clouds really make this photo. I took advantage of the three storm systems that made their way through the past week. I used my wide angle lens, though when I was shooting with film I used my 50mm. I can't wait to develop those.

Keep on the lookout for more photos from around the small town. I shot some on a holga a while back, just have to scan those in.

Welcome

Well, welcome to the new year.

2007 is behind us, for better or worse, and 2008 is here ready to rock and roll. Lets hope that this year is full of excitement, opportunities and fun. I have plenty of plans for the new year.

I hope to expand my freelance business a little more. I have been getting some work, but I think I need more experience and the only way to do that is get more jobs.

Next semester should be the same as the last. I am taking a full load at SJSU, but this time I am taking a few GE classes instead of all art. Should be a good semester.

Some changes I hope to make with this blog, is I hope to make it a little more informational. I have this blog and I think it's important to put it to a little better use. I also want to do some more videos. So, lets hope that works out.

Now that's not to say I am going to stop displaying my own work, so here is a picture of a gorgeous girl I shot before the end of the year. I figure why not start the year off with a beautiful women in the post.

Look soon for more post and have an interesting new year!

God bless.
